I know this holiday has mostly been turned into an excuse for Americans to drink far too much beer and any Irish spirits, but what are y'all doing besides that?

We're having the whole famdamily over for dinner. I'm making corned beef braised in Guinness, cabbage, roasted potatoes, sprouts, homemade Irish Soda Bread, homemade butter, Guinness Chocolate Cake and, of course, more Guinness.

Probably stop at McCormicks Fish House for a Guinness on my way out of work early and then cook up some corned beef and cabbage when I get home.

I wish I was up there to join the rest of my family, Bird! We don't have any big plans yet outside of throwing back a Guinness and trying to find a McDonalds that sells shamrock shakes!

In New Orleans they have a St. Patricks day parade where they throw cabbage at you and vegetables etc. Men put a St Paddy sticker on womens boobs and give them a squeeze and a kiss. They also try to put dated panties on you with 2008 on them. My daughter just called me now after seeing it yesterday.

Well I was supposed to got to McSorely's (www.mcsorleysnewyork.com/home.html) last night for an early celebration but we drank too much on Friday night.

I think I will be attending one of the numerous Irish pubs over here for some glorious Guinness.

I ended up cooking tonight Sunday instead of tomorrow. Did the Corned Beef and Cabbage thing with carrots and potatoes and a six pack of Guinness.

All came out great. Made a sauce with a cup of the water from all the meat and vegies with a cup and a third of cream. 4 tablespoons of Dijon whole grain mustard and a little Roux to thicken it.

That does sound good. Nothing fancy, but I think I had the best of them all..... Grandma's corned beef, cabbage, carrots and spuds delivered from her kitchen to my night job. Followed by a Wendy's baconater burger.
